Running Progress

About Your Coach

Glenn Foster

England Athletics Coach in Running Fitness

Coaching built on a real running journey — not shortcuts or hype

I created Running Progress because many runners do not need complicated coaching theory or elite-level mileage. They need a clear plan, realistic structure, and enough consistency to keep improving — the same things that worked for me over many years.

I started running as an ordinary recreational runner. My early times were modest — a 25-minute 5K and a 4:34 marathon — and I improved gradually through structured training, learning from mistakes, and building habits that fit around work and family life.

Today my personal bests include a 3:19 marathon and a 1:29:41 half marathon. Those results came from stacking manageable weeks together, not from talent or perfect conditions.

Coaching philosophy

As an England Athletics qualified Coach in Running Fitness, I focus on what actually helps everyday runners progress: sustainable mileage, sensible recovery, and plans you can follow when life gets busy.

Successful training is rarely about perfection. Most runners improve by staying healthy, training consistently, and choosing sessions that match where they are today — not where a generic plan assumes they should be.

I wasn't a talented runner who became a coach. I started as an ordinary runner and improved through years of consistent, structured training. The same principles now form the foundation of every Running Progress plan.

Who Running Progress is for

  • people training around work and family
  • runners building toward their first race at a new distance
  • runners trying to improve steadily without burnout
  • runners looking for practical guidance rather than fitness-industry noise

The goal is to keep training simple, useful, and approachable — helping runners move forward one step at a time.
